What grade do I need on my final?

Runs 100% in your browser. Numbers stay on your device.

The classic finals question: you know your grade so far and how much the exam is worth — what score do you need to hit a target overall? TryCalculatingNow solves the weighted-average algebra in your browser. Not academic advice; your syllabus and school rules win.

Worked example (82 → 90, 30% final)

Current = 82, desired = 90, w = 0.30 → needed = (90 − 82 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 ≈ 108.7%. Best overall with a perfect final: 82 × 0.70 + 100 × 0.30 = 87.4%. Open the calculator with those numbers already filled:

How to use it

  1. Enter current course percent from your gradebook.
  2. Enter final weight (e.g. 30 for 30%).
  3. Enter desired overall — or switch to reverse mode (“if I score X…”).
  4. Read the verdict; if needed > 100%, lower the target or check syllabus options.

Disclaimer: Results assume a single weighted final against a current average. Category weighting, dropped scores, and curves can differ — verify with your instructor or official gradebook.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know what grade I need on my final?

Use current course %, final weight as a percent, and your desired overall. Solve needed = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w where w is weight ÷ 100. TryCalculatingNow’s Final Grade Calculator does that in your browser.

What if I need over 100% on the final?

Then that target is unreachable under those weights, even with a perfect final. Best overall ≈ current × (1 − w) + 100 × w. Ask about extra credit, curves, or category weights in your syllabus.

Does this match my school’s gradebook?

Only if your syllabus weights match what you enter. Category drops, curves, and pass/fail rules can change the result — verify against your official gradebook and handbook.

Are my grades uploaded?

No. Math runs locally after the page loads. Refresh clears inputs. Recent scenarios (if you use them) stay in localStorage on your device only.
