2026 federal tax brackets

The IRS adjusts brackets for inflation each year. For 2026, seven marginal rates apply — 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37% — with thresholds that depend on filing status. Only the portion of income inside each band is taxed at that band's rate; moving into a higher bracket does not raise the rate on income you already earned in a lower one.

Where these figures come from

Every rate and threshold here is copied by hand from the official page below and re-checked on a set date — we do not scrape them automatically, so a figure never changes without a person confirming it first.

Federal tax only — state and local taxes, credits, and itemised deductions are not modelled.

This calculator is math, not tax or financial advice. Where an official figure and our copy of it disagree, the official one is correct — tell us and we will fix it.

Not financial or tax advice. Figures are mathematical illustrations only. Real products add fees, taxes, and terms that change the result — confirm with your bank, CA, or official notice. Numbers are not uploaded to our servers for processing.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official IRS calculator?

No. It applies 2026 federal bracket rates and the standard deduction only — no credits, itemized deductions, self-employment tax, or state tax. Use IRS.gov or a CPA for filing.

What are the 2026 federal tax brackets?

Seven rates apply: 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%, with thresholds that differ by filing status (Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, Head of Household). Pick your status above to see your bracket.

What is the 2026 standard deduction?

$16,100 for Single and Married Filing Separately, $32,200 for Married Filing Jointly, and $24,150 for Head of Household. This tool assumes the standard deduction — itemizing is not modeled.

Does this include state income tax?

No — federal only. State income tax rules vary widely (some states, like Texas and Florida, charge none) and are not modeled here.

Effective rate vs marginal rate — what is the difference?

Marginal rate is the rate on your last dollar of taxable income. Effective rate is total tax divided by gross income — always lower than the marginal rate because earlier brackets are taxed at lower rates.

Is my income uploaded anywhere?

No. TryCalculatingNow computes federal tax in your browser. The shareable link carries only the income figure and filing status you entered — never uploaded to our servers for processing.
