Canada taxes income at both the federal and provincial/territorial level, and every province sets its own brackets and rates. A single national number would either be wrong for most people or require picking one province as a stand-in for all ten — this tool avoids that by showing the federal portion only, which is consistent no matter where in Canada you live. Add your province's own bracket table (available from your provincial revenue agency) for a full estimate.
How the Basic Personal Amount works
The BPA is not a deduction from income — it is a credit that reduces your tax bill directly, calculated at the lowest federal rate. For most taxpayers (net income at or below $181,440 in 2026) the full $16,452 BPA applies. Above that, the amount phases down linearly until it reaches $14,829 at $258,482 and above — a mechanism aimed at higher earners rather than typical incomes.

Where these figures come from
Every rate and threshold here is copied by hand from the official page below and re-checked on a set date — we do not scrape them automatically, so a figure never changes without a person confirming it first.
Federal tax only — provincial and territorial tax is separate and is often comparable in size.
This calculator is math, not tax or financial advice. Where an official figure and our copy of it disagree, the official one is correct — tell us and we will fix it.
Not financial or tax advice. Figures are mathematical illustrations only. Real products add fees, taxes, and terms that change the result — confirm with your bank, CA, or official notice. Numbers are not uploaded to our servers for processing.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the official CRA calculator?
No. It applies 2026 federal bracket rates and the federal Basic Personal Amount only — no provincial tax, credits, RRSP deductions, or CPP/EI. Use CRA My Account or a tax professional for filing.
Does this include provincial tax?
No — federal only. Provincial and territorial income tax is separate, varies by province, and is often comparable in size to the federal amount. Your total tax bill will be higher than the federal figure shown here.
What are the 2026 federal tax brackets?
14% up to $58,523, 20.5% up to $117,045, 26% up to $181,440, 29% up to $258,482, and 33% above that (2026 CRA-indexed thresholds).
What is the Basic Personal Amount (BPA)?
A federal non-refundable tax credit — $16,452 for 2026 for most taxpayers, applied at the lowest bracket rate. It phases down to $14,829 for net income between $181,440 and $258,482, and stays at $14,829 above that.
Is my income uploaded anywhere?
No. TryCalculatingNow computes federal tax in your browser. The shareable link carries only the income figure you entered — never uploaded to our servers for processing.
