Frequently asked questions
How is a loan EMI calculated?
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of monthly payments.
What is EMI?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Instalment — the fixed amount you pay each month, covering both interest and principal, until the loan is repaid.
How do prepayments save money?
An extra monthly amount or a one-time principal cut shortens the schedule, so you pay interest for fewer months. This tool compares that scenario to the baseline EMI schedule — illustrative only.
Does this include fees or insurance?
No. It calculates principal and interest only. Real loans may add processing fees, insurance, or taxes — check your lender’s figures.
