Quick answer

The average (mean) is the sum of the numbers divided by how many there are: mean = sum ÷ count. For 4, 8, 15 the mean is 27 ÷ 3 = 9. This tool also shows median, sum, min, and max — paste your numbers below.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate an average (mean)?

Add all the numbers together, then divide by how many there are. Mean = sum ÷ count. For 4, 8, and 15, the sum is 27 and the count is 3, so the mean is 9.

What is the difference between mean and median?

The mean is the sum divided by the count. The median is the middle value when the numbers are sorted (or the average of the two middle values). The median is less affected by outliers.

How do I enter the numbers?

Separate them with commas, spaces, or new lines — for example "10, 20, 30" or one number per line. Non-numbers are ignored.
